Powerheads
Powerheads are used in aquariums to power undergravel filters via uplift tubes or without undergravel filters to provide extra circulation to the water in your aquarium.
A powerhead is needed with an undergravel filtration system to pass water through the filtration system, this constant flow increases the volume of aquarium water that is filtered.
Good circulation in your aquarium is important, the main benefit of using a powerhead without an undergravel filtration system is that they circulate water from the surface. Surface water has a higher oxygen content (from the air) and this is pushed to the bottom of the aquarium to maintain higher oxygen levels throughout your aquarium.
